Nine all-female flight teams were honored with a send-off event ahead of International Women’s Day.

In the spirit of this year’s International Women’s Day celebration, flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) accomplished an aviation milestone by having the most number of all-female flight crews in a single day, marking a collective triumph for women in the industry.

Two flights were bound for California, one to San Francisco and the other to Los Angeles, along with flights to Sydney, Hanoi, and Jakarta. Meanwhile, the all-female deck crew headed to Cebu, Tagbilaran, Davao, and Iloilo on domestic flights.

Apart from this historic and inspirational effort that broke glass ceilings, PAL also celebrates having female pilots from all flight divisions and across all ranks for the first time.

Prior to dispatching the nine women-only deck crew, PAL mounted a star-studded send-off event at PAL Express Gate 2 in Pasay City. Women empowerment emerged as the all-female crew was honored and celebrated, showcasing that PAL empowers women in the aviation industry. Filipina personalities, including Bianca Gonzalez-Intal, Andi Manzano-Reyes, and Camille Prats, were among the attendees at the send-off.

Throughout its 83 years, PAL has evolved into a leader in cultivating a progressive, women-inclusive company culture that allows everyone to thrive.

PAL achieved a significant milestone in 1993 when Captain Aimee Carandang became its first female pilot and Southeast Asia’s first commercial pilot, marking a historic moment in Asian aviation.
