This temple is one of the oldest in the country and also one of the first the state had built. Prince Shotoku founded Shitennoji in 593 because of his support for Buddhism’s growth in Japan. The temple has survived fires and disasters that led to its destruction over the centuries. However, local authorities always made it a point to reconstruct it the same as it was before.

Entrance Fee: JPY300, grounds are free
