Every year thousands of tourists fly to different parts of Japan to witness the blooming of cherry blossoms, or sakura. These pink and white flowers signal the beginning of spring and blooms for a maximum of two weeks, so pinpointing the exact date of the kaika (blooming) and mankai (full bloom) is crucial to make the most out of the season.
The Japanese think of these flowers as the symbol for renewal, beauty, and fragility of life. They adore and eagerly wait for sakura season so much that they even hold festivals for it or just simply enjoy hanami, the tradition of viewing and enjoying the beauty of the cherry blossoms.
