South Cotabato cradles one of the Philippines’ cleanest inland bodies of water – Lake Holon. Previously named Lake Maughan, Lake Holon is nestled on Mt. Melibengoy, also known as Mt. Parker. The mystical and scenic lake has been dubbed the “Crown Jewel of the South” and is one of the top tourist destinations in the Soccsksargen region. But years before that, Holon, which means deep water in T’boli, was considered a sacred place by the tribe. In recent years, the lake has become more popular with tourists for adventure treks and nature trips. Tourists come to swim in the cold waters, commune with nature and camp out overnight beside the body of water.
