Here’s How Filipinos Can Apply for Japan’s New e-Visa

Your dream Japan travel is now a step closer.

For many Pinoys who dream of visiting Japan, there’s usually one major hurdle aside from looking for seat sales: securing a Japanese visa. Applications are typically submitted in person through the Japan Visa Application Center (JVAC), operated by VFS Global. But it looks like the process is about to become much easier thanks to a new e-visa system. Here’s what you should know about the Japan e-Visa System.

What is the Japan e-Visa System?

Japan recently expanded access to its e-Visa (electronic visa) for Philippine passport holders. The Japan e-Visa is a document that allows an individual to travel to the country for short-term tourism for up to 15 days. But here’s the catch — only those traveling as part of a tour through an accredited travel agency are eligible for a Japan e-Visa.

As of May 15, 2026, the following are eligible for it:

Who are eligible for the Japan e-Visa?

  1. All foreign nationals/people residing in Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and U.S.A.
  2. Nationals of China
  3. Nationals of the Philippines who reside in the Philippines and participate in a packaged tour organized by accredited travel agencies
  4. Nationals of Vietnam who reside in Vietnam and participate in a packaged tour organized by designated travel agencies
  5. All foreign nationals/people residing in Hong Kong, India, Macau Mongolia, the Republic of Korea (except jurisdiction over the Consulate General of Japan in Jeju), Singapore, and United Arab Emirates (UAE), except those who are exempt from short-term visa

Are there other requirements?

Travelers applying for a Japan e-Visa must travel to Japan by air. Traveling by sea is limited to international scheduled passenger ferries between Japan and Busan or Shanghai.
