When was the last time you went to a library? While we’ve resorted to cafes for getting work done, the cost of getting coffee every time you want to go out and stay at a public space does add up. In case you’re looking for free spaces to study or work or simply looking for a venue to enjoy a good read in silence, we’ve got you covered with a list of Metro Manila libraries:
1. The Library at UCM
Location: Rada St., corner 1229 Legaspi Street, Legazpi Village, Makati
Tucked in the basement of Union Church of Manila is a library that houses over 25,000 books and audio materials. The library first started as an outreach program by the Women’s ministry to the expatriate community in the 80s. Now, the library welcomes all visitors, whether they are studying, working, or conducting workshops. While the library is free for use, you can pay an annual fee of PHP 200 to borrow books and access WiFi.
There’s also a free library outside the building where you can take or leave a book. The Public Book Box resembles Doctor Who’s TARDIS, so it wouldn’t be challenging to find.
Opening hours: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays; 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Wednesdays; 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Sundays. The library is closed on Thursdays and Fridays.
Entrance: Free
2. Filipinas Heritage Library

Located on the 6th floor of the museum, the Filipinas Heritage Library is home to over 10,000 Filipiniana volumes, dating back to 1946. Admission isn’t free to the library, but discounted rates are available for students, seniors, and PWDs. The fee already includes WiFi use, device charging, and access to the collections.
