Planning a trip to South Korea? If you’re looking for places to visit outside of Seoul, you might want to add Pohang City to your itinerary. Known as the City of Steel and Light, Pohang is roughly four hours via bus or a 2.5-hour speed train away from Seoul. Its most popular attraction is the Space Walk, which is perfect for thrill-seeking tourists. Here’s everything you need to know about this destination, including places to visit around Pohang:

Pohang Space Walk

If you’re the type to skip roller coaster rides in amusement parks, the Pohang Space Walk might be the more ~manageable~ tourist attraction for you. Nestled at Hwan-ho Park’s highest peak is this gigantic installation made of steel, which is also Korea’s first and largest experiential staircase sculpture. Complete with loops, turns, and everything in between, the Space Walk was completed in 2021, making it one of the newest attractions to visit in the country.

Boasting a 333-meter track length and a height of 24.6 meters, the Space Walk provides a stunning 360-degree view of Pohang City. It features three concepts: a.) it stands as a symbol of light and iron, b.) “walking slowly” allowing guests to find their picture-perfect spot, and c.) “cloud” which gives visitors the feeling of walking on clouds due to its height.

In case you’re wondering, no, you can’t walk the loop in the Space Walk. There are a total of 717 stairs to walk at your own pace, and entrance here is free.
