Things to do On a Short Trip in Fukuoka

Japan is more than just Tokyo.

Fukuoka is a bustling modern city, but just a short half day trip away you’ll see its ancient roots. Dazaifu was the administrative hub of Kyushu for centuries, dating back to the 7th century. It no longer has the prominence it once had, but it is a place to relive history. Here you’ll see many shrines, temples and ruins from a different epoch. The most famous attraction is the Tenmangu Shrine. It was built to honor the spirit of Sugawara Michizane, a renowned politician and notable scholar from the Heian Period.
