Check these out!
by | September 01, 2017

We’ve reached the final quarter of the year! Although we don’t have as many long weekends as we did in the previous month, there’s still ample time to travel around the city and discover all the events worth attending. Here are just some of the things you can do this month!

Catch all the international film fests

Beginning August 31 until September 3, EDSA Shangri-la Mall will be holding the 11th International Silent Film Festival, a showcase of classic and contemporary silent films from nine different countries, musically scored by local bands including Sandwich, Rivermaya and Tom’s Story. Check out the complete schedule here.

From September 16 to 26, Shangri-la Mall will also be holding the 20th Cine Europa Film Fest featuring a wide range of films covering varied genres, from horror and suspense to comedy and drama.

There will also be a Korean Film Fest running from September 7 to 13 at SM Megamall featuring six different films that fall under this year’s theme “Boldness of Youth.” Check out the complete schedule here.

Appreciate the art of making local films

Deepen your love and appreciation for local films and filmmaking even further by attending Yabang Pinoy’s second Philippine Cinema Sessions. It’s a two-day-long series of talks and sessions about filmmaking, the current state of Philippine Cinema, and other elements necessary in tackling different social issues in movies to be held from September 9 to 10 at the Globe Tower in Taguig City. Learn more about the event and how you can join here.

Party away with friends

Spend one night without worrying about adult responsibilities and head to one of the most anticipated international electronic dance music festivals this year, the Road to Ultra 2017, happening on September 15 at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. Find out more about the event and how to grab tickets here.

Watch a locally-staged musical

Philippine Educational Theater Association’s staging of A Game of Trolls is one show you cannot miss. Running from September 2 to 17, it’s expected to be uncharacteristically humorous as it is told through the eyes of a professional troll determined to spread lies surrounding Martial Law using music, romance, rap battles, and more. Find out more about the show and get your tickets here.

Hoard discounted books at the Manila International Book Fair

Need new books to add to your collection or to give as gifts for the holidays? Head to the 38th Manila International Book Fair from September 13 to 17 at SMX Convention Center at the Mall of Asia Complex. There will also be talks, workshops, book signings and more apart from a large sale that will unleash the crazed bookworm in you.

Do something good for the environment and the community

Make time to help out with cleaning up Manila Bay at the International Coastal Clean-up scheduled in the early morning of September 23, or participate in the 2017 Social Good Summit hosted by Rappler on September 16 at the Samsung Hall at SM Aura Premier where you’ll be encouraged to picture what the world will be like in Year 2030.

Be among a community of black and white photographers and photography enthusiasts

The first of its kind in the country, MØNOMANIA’s Black + White Photography Fair is a two-day event of workshops, portfolio reviews, talks, slideshows, photozines and an exhibition featuring over 250 photographers and image-based artists from all over the world. It will be held at ASPACE Greenbelt from September 23 to 24. Visit their official Facebook page for more details.
