Looking into starting your fitness journey but still can’t find a routine or sport to commit to? Whether it’s for fitness or for fun, wall climbing and bouldering are sports that will help you build strength and improve flexibility. If you want to try your hands at it, here’s a list of wall-climbing and bouldering gyms around the metro:

 

The Bouldering Hive

Don’t worry if you’re a complete beginner and only getting started with climbing. All first-timers at The Bouldering Hive have to undergo briefing and orientation. You’ll also receive lessons about falling. Newbies can also try an hour-long Intro to Bouldering class, where they’ll learn the basics of bouldering, safety principles, proper climbing gym etiquette, and general climbing tips and tricks.

Climb Central Manila

Location: The Portal, Mayflower St., Greenfield District, Mandaluyong City

Anyone can climb – that’s the motto of the country’s biggest indoor air-conditioned sport climbing venue, Climb Central Manila. So, when you’re feeling overwhelmed, you can find your little spot in this vast space and learn the ropes of climbing. If you’re visiting for the experience, go for the Walk-In Entry option. And if you end up liking the sport, choose from their variety of programs.

Rates start at P800 for an Adult First Timer Set.

Operating hours: 1 PM to 10 PM on Mondays to Fridays; 10 AM to 10 PM on Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays

Power Up Climbing Gym

Locations: Alabang, Centro Cubao, TS Diliman, and ROX BGC

When you ask for wall climbing recommendations, Power Up Climbing is on top of the list as they’re the country’s pioneer. They’ve been in the biz since 1994 and have expanded in different locations around the metro, so it wouldn’t be too difficult to find one near you.

Rates start at P400 for an All-Day Rate.

Edge Climb Gym by The Upper Deck

Location: G/F One Technopoint Parking Building, 3 Vargas Ave, Pasig

Once you get the hang of your climbing, go for the extra challenge of climbing at Edge Climb Gym. They’re home to the country’s tallest climbing wall that’s as tall as seven stories or 70 feet. Don’t worry if you’re not ready for it yet as Edge Climb Gym also has Trial Climbs you can try for P250.

Operating hours: 11 AM to 8 PM from Tuesdays to Fridays; 9 AM to 9 PM on Saturdays and Sundays

Maic’s Gym
