The pandemic may have brought all our travel plans to a standstill, but that hasn’t stopped us from dreaming and adding destinations to our travel wishlist. And now that COVID-19 restrictions are cautiously being lifted all over the world, the wanderlust is getting even stronger. Where are most travelers going to next? According to 2020 most searched destinations data from travel portal Agoda, Filipinos are most interested in traveling locally.

What the search data says about Filipino travelers

According to Agoda, Manila, Boracay, Cebu, Palawan, and Batangas are the most popular destinations across all Filipino demographics, which include couples, families, group travelers, and solo travelers.

Group travelers are the most interested in traveling domestically, as their top ten most searched destinations are all within the country. Meanwhile, solo travelers are the keenest on traveling overseas, with Tokyo (#5), Bangkok (#9), and Seoul (#10) making it to their top ten most searched destinations.

The world wants to travel to Asia

Though Filipinos may be sticking to domestic destinations, travelers around the globe are making plans to travel to Taiwan, Thailand, and Japan — the top searched destinations for travel on Agoda.

Taiwan tops the travel escape searches, followed by Thailand (last year’s #1), then Japan, Vietnam, and South Korea. The United States, Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Indonesia complete the rest of the top ten.

“While Agoda’s search data has seen a shift toward domestic destinations as regulations are being eased for domestic travel, people are still dreaming about international adventures,” says Tim Hughes, Vice President of Corporate Development, Agoda. “What Agoda’s data is showing us is there is still a hunger to travel. People are keen on exploring their own countries whether alone, with family, or with friends. They are also looking forward to visiting their dream international destinations too once it’s safe to do so and are looking for the best deals for when that time comes.”
