21 January
Cebu City

Sinulog Festival is Cebu’s annual dance ritual that gives honor to the miraculous image of the Child Jesus, which was given by Magellan to Harah Amihan, Rajah Humabon’s wife, after her baptism. The name of the festival itself is inspired by the movement of the dance executed during the observance, which resembles the current (“sulog”) of what was then known as Pahina River in Cebu.

Commencing nine days before the third Sunday of January, Sinulog Festival is composed of a series of activities like concerts, contests, and cultural shows – among many others – for the enjoyment of locals and tourists alike. The main procession of the image of the Santo Niño is loud and vibrant, punctuated by jovial shouts of “Viva Pit Señor!”
