Studio Ghibli fans know that getting a ticket to the Ghibli Museum can be a pain. But you don’t have to go to the Ghibli Museum to get the official merchandise of famous Studio Ghibli films. Donguri Kyowakoku or Donguri Republic (どんぐり共和国) is the official store of Studio Ghibli in Japan, and they’ve got over 30 different branches across Japan.

Fun fact: The English translation of Donguri Kyowakoku is “acorn republic” which fits the theme of the store perfectly. The store is decorated with tree branches across the ceilings, natural wood shelves, and many of them even have a life-size Totoro on display.

You’d need to prepare your emotions as the store is full of different Studio Ghibli merchandise that will have your heart jumping with glee. They play Studio Ghibli songs on loop to complete the atmosphere.

Some stores have a Donguri Bank, which allows customers to bring in acorns they have collected. These are brought to Okawa, a small village in Shikoku to help reforestation. For every 100 acorns, customers are eligible to receive an oak sapling in return.
