ICYMI: Mckinley Hill is Opening the Country’s First Floating Outdoor Cinema

Movie night on a gondola, anyone?
by | December 03, 2020

After months of watching movies on streaming sites, shopping malls have come up with creative ways to bring back the cinema experience without compromising safety protocols. Just recently, we’ve heard of SM Pampanga and SM Mall of Asia turning their grounds into drive-in cinemas. Following the outdoor movie experience train, something new is opening in December and this time, you’ll get to watch movies while riding a gondola.

Float-In Cinema at Venice Grand Canal Mall

On a Facebook post, Megaworld teased about the newest attraction in the shopping mall, showing a huge outdoor screen and people riding their famous gondolas in the Grand Canal.

McKinley Hills’ Float-In Cinema is the first of its kind in the Philippines, offering a new outdoor cinema experience to Pinoys who might want to have a change of scenery after months under quarantine. Dubbed as the “most romantic mall” in the country, Venice Grand Canal Mall is famous for its architecture inspired by the Italian city and the photo-spot Grand Canal. Mall-goers can experience a gondola ride around the canal for Php 400.

In the old normal, this gondola ride would let you experience being serenaded by a gondolier – just like in the Italian city. But in Float-In Cinema, a fee of Php 500 would let you watch a movie on a giant screen while on a gondola. It also includes bottled water and free popcorn. It’s a romantic twist on the typical drive-in movie experience.

To make the experience better, each gondola will have earphones plugged into it.
