Ready for some cliff jumping?

With travel time to La Union has been cut down to just 2 hours from Metro Manila, there will be no wondering why more people would want to drive up North for a beach getaway. Once all of this is over, of course. But other than La Union’s famous San Juan beach, the province also has natural attractions worth uncovering. If you’re up for more adventure after riding San Juan’s waves, a side trip to see Tangadan Falls will definitely satisfy every thrill-seeker.

Tangadan Falls, La Union

Located in the town of San Gabriel, Tangadan Fall is just an hour’s drive from San Juan. It’s a hidden gem nestled in the mountainous parts of San Gabriel, and it’s one of the town’s last ten remaining waterfalls.

It may be located in a lesser-known part of the town but it’s totally worth the hike. Before arriving at the falls, you have to go an hour-long trek along Baroro River. Be ready for an adventure and be prepared to get soaked! The river’s rocks are similar to Tinipak River’s and the trek alone is already scenic. Along the way, you’ll also get to see a smaller waterfall. You can also hire a tour guide to keep you company during the trail for Php 500 for a group of 5 persons.

After the trek along the river, you’ll be finally greeted by Tangadan’s majestic 50-feet falls. Unlike most waterfalls, Tangadan boasts huge rock formations that are guaranteed to satisfy every thrill-seeker. Its cold pool of water is perfect for cooling off after the hike and you can experience standing under the cold falls by riding a raft.

If you wish to go swimming, you can hire a vest for Php 50.

Things to do in Tangadan Falls

Tangadan Falls is actually a two-tier cascade and its upper level is where thrill-seekers go to. The 20-feet gigantic rock formation is perfect for cliff jumping since this level has a deeper and bigger pool of water. You can also rent a life vest for Php 50 if you want to safely try cliff jumping.

Other than cliff jumping and swimming, tourists can also try the bamboo cable car for only Php 20 that gives views of the Barobo River.

How to get there

Coming from San Juan, take a jeepney to San Gabriel and drop off at the Municipal Hall. Register and hire a tour guide and take a tricycle going to Tangadan Falls.

Some San Juan hotels like Flotsam & Jetsam Hostel also offer group tours to Tangadan Falls.
