1. Bato Church

Location: Salvacion Street, Bato, Catanduanes

@thejoserrano In the latter part of the 16th century, during the Spanish arrival in the country, they introduced Catholicism to the natives, established parishes, and built churches. One of these churches is the St. John the Baptist Church, also known as the “Bato Church,” located in the town of Bato, Province of Catanduanes. It stands in the town proper, next to the highway and parallel to the extensive Bato River. Constructed with mortar and coral limestones, the church was designed to withstand the powerful storms that batter the island annually. It remains a cherished heritage for the present-day residents of Catanduanes. Currently, the St. John the Baptist Church of Bato is the oldest church in the province, having endured the test of time, frequent violent typhoons, earthquakes, and other natural calamities. You can also take a moment to visit Bato Bridge and enjoy the scenic view. #travelph #catanduanes #bicol ♬ Higher – imcroixx
