The rafflesia is one of the largest flowers in the world and many tourists seek out this rare bloom in places Malaysia and Borneo. There are about 28 species of this in the world, with a few found in Philippines including the Rafflesia Speciosa which is endemic to Panay Island. Brgy. Aningalan, dubbed as the “Antique’s highlands” and “summer capital of Antique,” is home of the critically- endangered Rafflesia speciosa and endangered Rafflesia lobata. You can consider yourself lucky if you see one in the wild as these are quite rare and are known to bloom for only three to five days at a time.
