This Harry Potter-Inspired Cafe in Quezon City Can Take You to Hogwarts

It's absolutely magical!

Any Potterhead would love to go visit the Harry Potter exhibit in the UK or the Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade in Universal Studios. But it’s hard for most because there’s the visa you’d need to acquire before even getting there, and now it’s more difficult because of all the travel restrictions due to the global pandemic. Well, what if you could visit Hogwarts right here in the metro?

A homegrown café, Mad Cafe is known for their comfort food, hot and cool drinks, and their Alice in Wonderland-inspired cafe in Congressional, Quezon City. They recently opened another branch in Don Antonio Heights, with this second branch being inspired by the Harry Potter series.

The cafe

All around the Don Antonio branch, you’ll find pieces of Hogwarts to explore. There’s a high table designed like the train going to Hogwarts. But unlike Hogwarts, it’s full of sockets so people working or studying can have easy access to electricity to charge their devices.

Four booths are lined up against one wall of the cafe, with each booth featuring comfortable leather couches, a wooden tabletop, and a flag corresponding to a Hogwarts House. It’s just like a mini version of the Great Hall in the films, with the colors of Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin hanging down by your table.

Opposite this mini version of the Great Hall are small nooks tucked into the wall of the “castle.” You can choose one right on the ground or another a little higher up. There are no chairs in these nooks, so you could comfortably cross your legs while enjoying your food. Right beside these nooks are tables set on a green grass-like carpet, where customers can also just kick back and relax.

Right beside the mini version of the Great Hall is a playground designed like a castle. It’s perfect for families with kids, but at the moment, due to community quarantine restrictions, the cafe isn’t allowing entry for kids, so that area’s currently closed off.

Mad Cafe has a wide range of selection for you. You can grab an ice-cold milk tea or a good old cup of coffee. For meals, they have signature rice bowls that could easily fill your hungry tummy, with toppings like Bicol Express, Bopis, or even a Wagyu Beef Salpicao. If you’re just looking for a snack, they’ve got cheese sticks and fries for a quick merienda.
