A treat that can be a challenge for some to eat, zhu xie gao is a type of steamed rice cake made with pig’s blood (as its native name suggests) or chicken blood. It is dipped in sweet chili sauce then coated with crushed peanuts and sprinkled with cilantro.

Where to get it: Zhu xie gao is one of the most popular street snacks in Gongguan Night Market but is also available in other markets and restaurants in Taiwan.
